I Need Your Help

I need your help friends and this is one time when it really pays to be a dog that sheds. I'm sure all of you have heard about about the Gulf Coast oil spill by now but did you know that you can help with the cleanup? It's true and I'm going to tell you how.

A ruptured undersea well off Louisiana is spewing about 210,000 gallons (5,000 barrels) of crude a day into the Gulf of Mexico, and efforts to shut off the flow have been unsuccessful since the April 20 explosion that sank the drill rig Deepwater Horizon. The rig was about 50 miles off the southeast coast of Louisiana and killed 11 men. This was almost one year after I did a post about how hair is used to cleanup oil spills. All this crude is moving toward the Gulf Coast and efforts are underway to contain and clean it up. This is where you come in.

Matter of Trust is the brains behind the oil spill hair mats and hair booms. They need donations of hair, human and pet, so hair mats and hair booms can be made and used in the cleanup effort. I need all of you to go to www.matteroftrust.org and sign up to donate your hair. You can even visit your groomer and get them to donate hair.

Millions of people and animals depend on the Gulf Coast. Coastal wetland and barrier islands in Louisiana are the closest to the spill and the oil has already reached the coast as you can see from this photo. Birds and turtles have already washed ashore, presumably from the effects of the spill. Coastal areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida are also at risk and are preparing for the worst. Your hair could help save animals. Animals saving animals - what a concept!

Thank you Stubby for letting us know that even you and I can help.
I am going to tell mom not to throw out the hair she vaccumed off the carpet- from all the cats and me.
And I think it is time mom gets a hair cut- so we can mail that too.
I think tomorrow we need to go get a huge box so we can mail the hair.
And I saw some shedding horses down the road- its a perfect time to go get it. Its a perfect time for us to help all those poor fishies and birds and wild life.
We can do it- yes we can.
I am going to look for a box and some stamps - right now.

This is breaking our hearts Stubby. Mom remembers back in the early 90's when she lived in Newport Beach and the oil reached the beach from an oil spill. She awoke to the acrid smell of oil burning her throat. And when she went out to the beach, her feet and shoes where stained with oil. That spill was nothing compared to what is happening in Louisiana.

We do enjoy being brushed, now we'll enjoy it even more... Thanks so much for posting this.

Love,
Stella, Gunther and Betty

Thanks for the info, Stubby! I've been wanting to help, and have been looking for a low-cost way to do that. I'm going to make sure my Mommy puts the vacuumed hair to good use. And I'm going to let her furminate me as much as she can. Mommy's going to pass on the word too.

Hi Tweedles! I'm so glad you're going to help out. All our little animal friends that live on the Gulf Coast desperately need our help.

The horse hair is perfect too! And my mom needs a hair cut too and is thinking about getting it all cut out so she can send it in. I'm sure you'll have your huge box filled up in no time!

Hi Stella, Gunther & Betty! Since your mom knows first hand what an oil spill smells and feels like, maybe you guys could do a post about it. I've never experienced one up close and personal and neither has Mom, but it looks really bad on tv.

I'm glad to hear that you guys liked getting brushed because I hate it. I'm going to let mom brush me every day this month to help the animals.

Hi Yoda & Brutus! Our hearts are breaking too and we're going to do all we can to help the animals. If it means extra brushing, then that's what we have to do. Together, we can all help save the animals.

Hi Apollo! I hadn't really thought about that before but you are so right - this is a low cost way to help. You're so smart!

Tell your mom thanks for spreading the word. If all us puggies got brushed daily and if our parents vacuumed daily, we could clean up the spill in no time!

Holy cow Stubby thanks for the post, we never wouldve guessed there would be a way we could help. This is such a sad happening and we would love to lend a paw. Every time mom vacuums she says she can make a new dog. Thanks for the info.

Hi Oakley & Swisher! Mom is always amazed by how much pug hair there is in the house and there's only me. I think she could make me a pub brother with all that hair!

Us dogs are going to help clean up the oil spill!

Hi Pearly Poo! I find it hard to believe that you shed. No way! But if you do shed a little hair, please collect it and then send it to the Gulf Coast.

Hi Josie Girl, Izzy & Anakin! Between the three of you, you could probably clean up the entire oil spill. I think all of us will be getting a lot more brushing now that we are all going to help. Maybe we could have a brush-off to see who could collect the most!
