Personal PetCast

How cool is this? Mom can get a personal petcast for me each day from weather.com. Just go to www.weather.com/pets and put in some information about your pet.

Dog or cat? Dog of course!

Pet's size? Hmmm. Mom chose small for this field.

Hair length? Short, but lots of it!

Pet's age? Mom chose adult because I'm not a puppy and I'm definitely not geriatric.

Pet overweight? I told Mom to select no, but according to the doctor I am overweight at 22.5 lbs.

Zip code? 60060

Pet's name? I wanted to use an alias, but Mom told me it would not be polite to use Rudy's name.

After Mom hit 'submit' I got my forecast for today and tonight. In addition to the usual information like sunrise and sunset times, temperature, and precipitation, I got a dog comfort index.

Dog Comfort Index = 3 paws

Best Time to Walk Your Dog 3PM-5PM
Mosquito Activity: Low
Best Time to Walk Your Dog 6PM-11PM
Mosquito Activity: Low

Mom clicked on the dog comfort index link and this is what it said:

Many factors impact your dog's comfort level in various weather conditions, including its hair length, age, weight and size.

For example, dogs with double coats are more likely to experience heatstroke because they retain more heat than dogs with single coats, like Poodles and terriers. Small, young, short-haired dogs are less tolerant of cold conditions than large, bulky dogs or dogs with thick coats, according to the American Animal Hospital Association.

Using a 0-5 scale, the Dog Comfort Index estimates how comfortable your dog will be outdoors in forecasted weather conditions. This may influence whether you leave your dog outside or opt to bring him/her indoors. The scale works as follows:

4-5 paws: Most Comfortable

2-3 paws: Moderately Comfortable

0-1 paws: Uncomfortable

I can be walked at almost any time today since I got three paws. I may be moderately comfortable on my walks today but it's raining and I don't like to get wet. Translation: no walks for me. Just a quick step out in the yard to do my business and then a sprint back into the house where I race by Mom who is standing with a towel in her hands.

I know that Mom knows that I cannot tolerate the heat, rain, or snow, but I like a personalized petcast just for me. I know you guys would like one too, so go check this cool tool out to see how many paws you get for today.

Hi Sequoia & Tuni! Thanks for stopping by. Isn't it cool that we can have our own petcast? Finally something cool for us doggies.

I'm going to check out your vacation photos later. I can't wait to see how much fun you guys had.

Stubby, I got 3 paws today too! A 'cold front' is moving through, and it's down in the 80's!

I also wanted to tell you that I don't think you're overweight. What do vets know?!?

Have a great weekend, cutie!

Hi Pearly Poo! I'm so glad you're feeling better and that you got 3 paws today.

A cool front in the 80's? It's 64 here and Mom is hating it. She told Rudy that it's 20 degrees to cold for her.

Those dumb old vets don't know anything about pugs. I need a pug vet, not a regular dog vet. I know I'm not overweight and I'm glad that you can see it too.

Wow Stubby, your very own forecast!! That's way cool! It wasn't raining down here much today, but I guess it went north of the city. Sorry you couldn't get a nice walk in because of it.

Hey dude! WOW...this petcast is COOL! Mom bookmarked it and I'm glad to see that tomorrow is supposed to be NICE for my first official shift as Holden's team mascot this season!

Pssssshhhhh...mom clicked "overweight" for me too even though I told her not to. Jeeezz...with the way she rations my food and treats and hauls me around on walks, you'd think I was some grotesquely obese heifer of a Pug.

Have a great weekend dude and hopefully you'll get a nice walk in!

Hi Melissa & Emmitt! I'm glad you like the petcast. It will come in handy so our moms know when it is good for us to be out and about.

Hi dw! It rained until about 2:00 this afternoon. I think we always get more rain up here than you do.

I didn't take a walk today, but Rudy sure did. Mom took him on an extra long walk because he missed his walk yesterday.

Salinger dude! Great news that tomorrow's petcast is good for the game. How cool is it that you are the team mascot? I am just the mascot of my house.

Um, the overweight thing is not fair. We are not overweight - it's all our hair. We are fluffy. I am going to click 'no' for overweight when I check the petcast tomorrow and see what the recommendation is.

Hi Heather & Walter! I'm so glad you stopped by and that you love the petcast. Us puggies cannot go out when the weather is not just right and now we will have backup when our parents want to drag us out.
