Get Your Pumpkins Ready!

I've been MIA for a couple of days due to a family emergency. Everything is okay now, but for the past few day things were kind of scary.

Dad had been experiencing shortness of breath on and off for the past couple of weeks. On Wednesday it got worse and by Thursday it was really bad. He called the doctor and long story short, ended up in the emergency room at Lake Forest Hospital. They did a CT Scan on his chest and found 2 pulmonary embolisms - blood clots. Pulmonary embolisms typically (90% of the time) begin in your legs and travel to your lungs. Sometimes they keep traveling and if they make it to your heart, well I think you know the rest. Dad's mom died from a pulmonary embolism that traveled to her heart causing cardiac arrest, so Dad was freaking out.

Dad was admitted to the hospital Thursday night and came home yesterday afternoon. They wanted to keep him for 5 days but Dad told them he needed to get home because I missed him. The doctor would only agree to let him go home if he could administer his own meds via shots in the stomach - yuk! He needs to rest for a couple of days and go back to the doctor tomorrow to make sure that his blood is thinning. Dad resting means Stubby is resting to keep him comfortable and keep him company.

Mom is getting antsy with all this resting and she wants to go get some pumpkins. I don't know if she's going to carve the pumpkins, but I found out about this contest last week and I think she should carve my picture into a pumpkin so she can enter the contest.

The contest is from ModCloth and you enter by posting a picture of your carving on their Facebook group by midnight, October 31. You can create one of your own ModCloth inspired designs or use one of their pumpkin patterns. The only pattern that comes up when you click on their patterns is the one at the top of my post. That's Winston and he's cute, but I'm cuter.

The winner of the contest will receive a $100 gift certificate and ModCloth Halloween Prize Pack, but the real winners are animals. For every photo submitted, ModCloth will donate $5 to The Washington Area Humane Society. How cool is that?

So get your pumpkins ready and get carving!

Hey Salinger dude! Dad keeps getting off the sofa and I keep crying to get him back. The more he does the worse he feels. He needs to be like me and just do some chillaxin.

Mom hasn't gone to the store yet because Dad doesn't feel good. All the vacuuming she did earlier gave him a headache, so she either needs to go to the store or chill out!

Oh my gosh Stubby. I am so upset to read this about your Daddy! Health scares are the worst! Please promise me that you will make him stay down for a while and get all better. I will come over there and keep a watch on him 24/7 if I have to! Lay down Daddy!

I am thinking of you guys and praying that he is back to good in no time!

And I LOVE that puggy pumpkin!!

Hi Stubby! We are very sorry that your daddy has not been feeling well. I think he has the same problem grandma has. She is now in Canada visiting my aunty and has pain in one leg (where she had a blood clot early this year) but she has been told to stay home and go to the hospital if she feels short of breath. Sounds very scary! Specially since she is not good talking english. She will be better back home in Peru.
I know that your daddy will get better soon! He needs lots of rest... Mom will keep him in her prayers. Hugs to you and your mommy!

Oh Stubby, I do hope your daddy feels better soon!! If he won't stay down on his own, try laying on top of him to weigh him donw. I find this methond tends to be pretty effective in my house. And the cuter you look weighing him down, the less they want to move adn disturb you!!!

Hi Sequoia & Tuni! I am doing my best to make Dad feel better. Thanks for sending your healing pug thoughts because they are working.

As for the pumpkin, tell your mom that you will get rid of the pumpkins before they rot and mold. This way your dad can't get mad.

Hey Pugsley & Lola! Thanks for stopping by. I sure have missed you guys and am glad you're back to blogging.

I think all the pug kisses are working because Dad is getting better.

Hi Oakley & Swisher! I have been taking really good care of Dad and he is getting better. His blood is not thinning as quickly as it should but I am making sure he takes it easy. We are spending lots of time relaxing on the sofa.

Hey Pearly Poo! I haven't left Dad's side since he got home. When I told him that you were going to come here and keep an eye on him he told me to tell you not to worry. He's doing a lot of relaxing and it's working. Thanks for all your prayers.

Hi Bajas & Virus! Thanks for stopping by and for keeping your paws crossed. Dad is doing much better and thanks you both for your well wishes.

Hi Coco! Yes, it sounds like your grandma has what Dad has. Dad never had any leg pain, but that's definitely a symptom. I hope your grandma gets the medical attention she needs and tell her to the emergency room if she has shortness of breath.

Thanks for keeping us in your prayers. Your hugs are just what I needed.

Hi Lilo! I took your advice to lay down on Dad and it worked! He couldn't move - he had to lay down. Not only did I look cute doing it but he never even mentioned how heavy I felt. I stayed there for hours and we both got much needed rest. Thanks again!

We will send lots of pug snorts for your dad. We want him to be healthy and around for a long time for you.

Hi Roxy & Lucky! Thanks for sending the pug snorts. Dad is doing okay and has to go to the doctor tomorrow to have his blood tested.

You are right that he needs to get healthy so that he's around for a long time because I really need him. Thanks for your support.

Oh no! I've been wondering why I haven't seen your Stubbiness on my blog the past few days :( I'm so glad your dad is OK and back home where he belongs.

Maybe try sitting on his head to make him stay still? Some of your calm, cool pugness might rub off.

Stubby said...

Hi Puglet! Thanks for the advice. I think I will try sitting on Dad's head tonight to see if it works. I am very calm and cool, so if it rubs off on him that would be great. You are so very smart!

Hi Melissa & Emmitt! Dad is getting better thanks to all the good vibes and wishes everyone has been sending his way.

I have a great bedside manner and Dad is lucky that he has me to lean on.

I think you are right - the pugkin is the perfect medicine. Mom is going to get pumpkins tomorrow so we will be carving this weekend.

Hi Stubby! you wont believe this. An hour after I posted my comment mom got a call from her sister telling her that grandma had chest pain and couldn't breathe well so they went to the hospital right away. She is doing good now, but she's been under evaluation and they did a lot of tests on her. We are still waiting for the final results, but they did reduce her dosis of blood thinning medication because it was too high. I hope your daddy is feeling better today. Please keep us updated

Hi dw! Dad is doing better but still needs to take it easy. He overdid it a little last night and is feeling it today.

Stubby said...

Oh no Coco! I can't believe the timing of it all. Keep me updated on the results of the tests.

Dad's medicine has been adjusted so hopefully his blood will start to thin.

Hi Jazzi! Thanks for stopping by. I'm going to visit your blog today to see what you're all about.

I am keeping myself on top of Dad literally. It is the only way he will relax. I don't get it because I am naturally relaxed.

I was born in Loves Park which is just north of Rockford and my cousins live in New Millford which is south of Rockford. I've driven through Belvidere on my way to see my cousins, so next time I'm in the area I'll stop by!

Hi Paula! Thanks for stopping by. I'm going to go check out your blog later today. I can't wait to meet your pugs.

No need to wait until the contest is over to get the pattern. You can find it here http://www.modcloth.com/store/images/9-28pumpkin-contest-pattern.jpg.
We haven't even gotten any pumpkins yet, but hopefully will this weekend.

Thanks for the well wishes for my dad. He is getting better every day and I'll give him a hug from you.

Hi Howie! Good to hear from you. I wondered where you have been. I thought maybe you and Pearly Poo ran off together and got married.

You are right about dads. My mom almost never gives me treats and I would starve to death if Dad weren't here. Dad is doing better and he even got me some Popeyes (which I really needed) on Monday for taking such good care of him.

Mom needs to get the pumpkins soon or I'll go crazy. I'll ring you up as soon as they get here.

Stubby xoxo
