Another Success Story For The Turtle Hospital!

I love happy endings! They make me feel warm and fuzzy and give me hope that things really are good in the world. When I read about a Loggerhead sea turtle that was recently released from The Turtle Hospital, I thought that all of you would want to hear about this happy ending so that you could feel warm and fuzzy too!

The people at The Turtle Hospital in Marathon, Florida, work so hard to make sure that ever patient that enters leaves healthy and happy, despite the condition they arrived in. They released a patient last week and he/she is on its way to a long and happy life!

Kincaid, a sub adult Loggerhead swam to the Turtle Hospital to check himself in last March. This was the first time in the hospital's 25 years that a sea turtle did this. Mom thinks that the word of the hospital is spreading around the ocean about the great work the hospital does.
When Kincaid arrived, he was acting really weird and he was weak. He hadn't eaten for a while and he was skinny, so the hospital doctors gave him a physical examination. They determined that Kincaid had an infection and was very sick. They immediately started giving him antibiotics and soon he/she started eating again. Kincaid loved eating squid and he/she gained 10 pounds.

After spending 2 1/2 months at the hospital, he was ready to go back to the ocean. Over 100 people showed up at a park on Little Duck Key to cheer on Kincaid and wish him/her luck as it heads back to the ocean. Check out the video of Kincaid's release below and if you are ever in Marathon, FL, please stop by and visit The Turtle Hospital.

Hi Stubby! Thanks for sharing this story! We go all the time to Marathon, we don't live too far away. In fact, yesterday we had lunch in Key Largo which is even closer. We will stop by the hospital next time and say hi to the turtles in your name!
P.s. mom had a turtle when she was younger. It was a land turtle and she came walking to the house (in Lima) and stayed for a couple of years. Then she disappeared and after a few years she came back! The dogs were friendly to her but mom was always scared that she might fall into the pool but she didn't.

Hey Salinger - Turtles really are smart animals. Sea turtles migrate long distances and somehow the mamas even find their way back to their birth beach - amazing!

I'm glad to hear that your mom finds them just a little less creepy now because they need all the supporters they can get. These big guys are still endangered and if we don't help them out they will go extinct.

Hi Coco! How cool that you guys go to the Keys all the time. You will love the turtle hospital because there are so many neat turtles there. Some turtles have to live there forever because they cannot go back to the ocean, but most like Kincaid just need some TLC.

I can't believe your mom had a turtle when she was younger and that it just came into the yard, stayed for a few years, went away, and then came back. Like I told Salinger, turtles are very smart. Not as smart as pugs like us of course, but pretty smart indeed!

Hi Stubby
What a special story- thank you for sharring!
I am so happy for the little turtle, and so glad it went to get help. My mom used to have turtles when she was a young person. The vet said it was 150 years old. It lived in her back yard. We love turtle and don't think they are creepy

Hi Tweedles! I can't believe that your mom had a turtle in her backyard too. Turtles can live a long time so I'm not surprised that hers was 150 years old.

Hopefully, people will be more careful in the oceans and all the sea turtles will live long lives!

Hi Stubby!!!!

Sorry I have been slacking on visiting you- Momma has been "busy". Ugh! She is a pill sometimes, I tell ya what.

Kincaid is AWESOME! He made Momma cry! Did you know when Momma & Daddy went on their honeymoon to Hawaii, they snorkeled and got to swim with turtles!? It was so magnificent!

Thanks for sharing that cool story with us! Your Momma is such a wonderful advocate for these sweet creatures.

Hi Pearly Poo! I miss you so much and am glad that you dropped by. Tell your momma to stop being so busy because all of your adoring fans want to read about what you've been up to.

How cool that your parents snorkeled with sea turtles in Hawaii! Mom thinks she should go to Hawaii every year to visit the turtles, but she has to settle for Georgia instead. She won't swim with them there but she will be up close and personal with them on the beach. Mom leaves on Friday and I am going to miss her.

jsanders73 - I'm glad you liked watching Kincaid head back to his home. Hopefully, there will be many more happy endings just like this one from The Turtle Hospital. It's places like that that really make a difference.
